We were excited to learn that Jerry and Betsy Goldman, co-promoters of the Alameda Point Antiques and Collectibles Faire, are putting on a similar series of monthly collectibles shows in San Mateo. They write that they're expecting 500 booths, and that many of the vendors will be the same as those at Alameda. This weekend is the first one.

I checked out the new flea market on Sunday. Overall, I guess it's hard to judge the success given that it was the first day. There were a lot of vendors from Alameda, but also more from Peninsula antique stores. I thought the collection of stuff was generally less good than Alameda, and the crowd there was totally different - less young people, more older people. The vendors weren't selling very much and seemed pretty eager to make deals - obscenely good ones - just too bad I didn't see more that I had to have! It was more expensive to get into as well - $7 mandatory parking charge plus admission...
