gingkologo5-15.gifGingko's mission is to offer well-designed, practical, quality home furnishings at an affordable price point. Their collection is Asian-inspired, but with a light, contemporary touch. It doesn't have the heavy finishes or embellishment of traditional Asian furniture.

table5-15.jpgGingko's furnishings have a modern, organic feel. They're made of solid wood, often repurposed. Ninety percent of their pieces are made from wood used in previous structures, such as old posts and beams, and doors. As Sarah Chang, one of the company's three partners, says, "Veneer doesn't speak to you." The Ironwood Dining Table ($1,650) is beautiful and full of character because of its age. Made from an old door, its texture invites touch.

Gingko's furnishings are beautiful yet functional. They're sized to fit into smaller rooms, and their features are carefully considered.

gingkostore5-15.jpgThe Tansu TV Cabinet ($980) has sliding glass doors so that electronic equipment such as a DVD player can be somewhat hidden yet still accessed with a remote.

Gingko sells beds, sofas, tables, chairs, cabinets, and room dividers. They also carry accessories such as pillows ($50), mirrors, and rugs, but they only sell items that they love and feel enhance the look. Gingko recently began selling lamps -- but it took them over six months to find a lighting line that they loved and that was complementary to their wooden collection. (Lamps are not on the website yet; however, one example is The Tall Rex Lamp ($165)).

Gingko also customizes furniture by adding drawers or shelves, changing dimensions, and so on. A Portland store opened in April, in addition to their stores in San Francisco and Palo Alto. They can also ship throughout the U.S. and even internationally.

Update 02/07: Gingko's opened a new store in Mountain View and closed the Palo Alto location.

I love Gingko; great design and quality yet affordable. Not only furniture but unique accessories like antique vases and vintage stools (even children's that my niece loves!). This is a place I know I will find wonderful surprises each time I walk in.

I love Gingko's designs, but often when I go into the Palo Alto store I get the hard-sell and a lot of attitude. I have actually refrained from purchasing things I wanted because of that. I am posting this not to be negative, but to send a message to the company...which will no doubt be monitoring these opinions.

It's nice to be nice

Pat, thanks for your feedback--you're right, we do try to look after our image and our customers--even those who have not yet made a purchase. Our goal is to be helpful, but not hard sell, we'll definitely keep your comments in mind. Please let me know if I can be of help.

Simply had to comment about a super experience with Gingko. For months I've been looking at their web site, coveting a tansu-inspired media table, but didn't have the time to go into SF from Marin to buy it. But two nights ago when I saw that it was on sale, I decided that was a sign, and if I wanted it before I moved to Sonoma at the end of the month, now was the time to order it. So, yesterday morning at 10:30 I called them to buy it, and within 3 hours they'd delivered this simply stunning piece of furniture! I can't praise them highly enough! This is fantastic customer service!
